Guwahati : With the Supreme Court firm on publication of the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) within the deadline set by it, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal rushed to Delhi to seek additional forces.The Chief Minister who arrived in the national capital on Monday evening met Union Home Minister, Amit Shah at his North Block Office. The prevailing situation was reviewed 
and the State Government is learnt to have sought additional Central Para-military forces to tackle the situation after publication of the final NRC. Emerging from the meeting, the Chief Minister told newsmen that the Supreme Court has ordered publication of the final NRC on August 31 and to carry out the task peacefully both the Centre and State Government are working jointly. “With the cooperation of the people of the State, the entire exercise was carried out peacefully. It was possible because the Centre also fully collaborated. To ensure that similar atmosphere prevails in the future also, the Union Home Minister assured us of full cooperation,” Sonowal added. “We have also discussed about the flood situation in the State and the Centre assured us that all assistance would be provided.
We are hopeful that people of Assam would continue its support and fully cooperate,” Sonowal said. According to sources, the State Government wants the Centre to deploy around 200 companies of Central forces to prevent any untoward incidents.Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal who is in New Delhi held a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah today at the latter's office in North Block and discussed on several aspects especially maintaining law & order after publication of final NRC.
He also apprised him the damages caused by the recent wave of flood in the state. Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured all assistance from the Centre for the state to maintain law and order after the final NRC which is to be published on August 31. Drawing attention of the Union Home Minister towards post flood situation in Assam, Sonowal gave him a detailed account of the damages caused by the recent waves of flood in the state. The Union Home Minister also assured Sonowal of all kinds of help and support in the State government's bid to rehabilitation and reconstruction work in the flood affected areas of the state. Further, in a statement Chief Minister Sonowal said that people of Barak- Brahmaputra, hills and plains extended all cooperation to the state government during the ongoing NRC updation process which is being carried out in the state under the supervision of the Supreme Court of India. He also appealed to the people to maintain peace in the aftermath of the publication of the final NRC.
