Union Information and Broadcasting, and Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar has said that India is committed to work towards the goal of sustainable development. He affirmed that the government believes in walking the talk and has achieved the targets set out by the country at global forums towards promotion of sustainable growth.
Speaking on the ‘Action Agenda for Sustainable and Self-Reliant India’ at the 15th Sustainability Summit-2020 organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) today, the Minister appealed that every country should present their case studies regarding emission of harmful pollutants and actions taken to check such emissions. He said, the developed countries need to rigorously act upon their commitments to check carbon emission.
Mr. Javadekar highlighted that despite India’s minimal share in carbon emissions as compared to developed countries, it has proactively implemented curative strategies to check emissions and promote sustainable growth. Taking responsibility to become a part of the solution, he said, India has under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi successfully emerged as a open defecation free nation by building over 120 million toilets.
Mr Javadekar enumerated initiatives including distribution of cooking gas to over 80 million households, National Clean Air Programme, India’s assistance pledge of 150 million US dollars to other countries to help attain sustainability. He reiterated that Atmanirbhar Bharat Mission to achieve self-reliance in the country will boost India’s engagement with other countries through development of a robust supply chain.
