Mumbai : Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central, successfully concluded its month-long Organ Donor Awareness Campaign conducted between July 11 and August 11, 2025. Centered around the theme “Your Final Act Can Be Your Greatest One!” the initiative aimed to normalize conversations on organ donation across communities and faiths.
The campaign engaged over 5,000 people from diverse backgrounds through hospital events, outreach in religious and community centers, and interactive sessions. It brought together spiritual leaders from various communities, alongside transplant specialists and donor-recipient families, to bridge the gap between medical need and social understanding.
Speaking at the event, Dr. S. K. Mathur, President of ZTCC Mumbai, said: “Organ donation is one of the greatest acts of humanity. Thousands of lives are lost every year simply because we don’t have enough donors. When families openly discuss their wishes, it turns moments of grief into legacies of life and hope.”
Dr. Swapnil Sharma, Consultant Liver Transplant and GI Surgeon, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central, added: “We lose countless patients, not because of medical limitations, but because of a shortage of donor organs. If people express their wishes during their lifetime, we can turn many tragedies into second chances.”
Dr. Nikhil Bhasin, Consultant Nephrologist and Renal Transplant Physician, Wockhardt Hospitals, remarked: “One donor can save up to eight lives. It all begins with a conversation at home, empowering families to say ‘yes’ with confidence.”
A spiritual perspective was shared by a respected community leader, Shri. Ramesh Vardhan, President, Shree Rajendra Yuva Manch (Jain Community) who said: “Organ donation is an act of compassion and selflessness. It allows us to serve humanity even after life, aligning with the teachings of all faiths.”
The campaign also saw participation from dialysis patients, transplant recipients, community leaders, and volunteers. Health camps offering free check-ups were organized alongside donor registration drives using QR codes and physical forms. Families of organ donors were honored for their life-saving decisions, and recipients shared emotional stories of renewed hope.
