Bangalore : Aster RV Hospital successfully organised a large-scale Walkathon on World Stroke Day, aimed at raising public awareness on stroke prevention, early detection and the importance of timely medical intervention.
The event was flagged off by Dr. Bhagavan B. C, Honourable Vice Chancellor, RGUHS (Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences), along with Dr. Madhusudan, Lead Consultant- Neurology, Aster RV Hospital. Their presence underscored the need for collective action in addressing rising stroke-related health challenges in the community.
The walkathon witnessed an exceptional turnout of over 600 participants, including students, healthcare professionals, fitness groups, senior citizens, and members of the public—an encouraging sign of the community’s growing commitment to healthier living.
Dr. Bhagavan B. C, Honourable Vice Chancellor, RGUHS, said “Stroke continues to be one of the leading causes of disability and mortality in India. Awareness initiatives like today’s Walkathon play a vital role in helping people recognise early symptoms and seek timely care. I’m encouraged to see such strong participation.”
Participants also engaged in brief awareness sessions led by stroke specialists, who spoke about lifestyle modifications and the importance of recognising critical warning signs such as facial drooping, arm weakness, and speech difficulty. They emphasised that acting within the “golden hour” can significantly reduce complications and improve outcomes.
Dr. Madhusudan, Lead Consultant- Neurology, Aster RV Hospital, added “Timely intervention can make all the difference in stroke care. Through this Walkathon, we hope to equip families with life-saving information so they can respond quickly and confidently when symptoms arise.”
