New Delhi – RGCIRC (Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre) successfully hosted the Lung Cancer Warriors Meet at the lndraprastha Hall, bringing together survivors, caregivers and leading experts for an inspiring and emotionally uplifting gathering that provided a shared space where families affected by lung cancer could engage directly with clinicians, exchange experiences, and draw strength from a supportive community.
Reflecting on the significance of the meet, Dr. Ullas Batra, Co-Director Medical Oncology and Chief of Thoracic Medical Oncology at RGCIRC, said, “Every lung cancer journey comes with its own challenges, but what we witnessed today is the power of shared experience. When survivors, caregivers and clinicians come together, it strengthens the belief that lung cancer is not just treatable, but navigable with the right guidance and support. This community spirit is just as important as medical treatment.”
The programme began with a welcome interaction, setting a warm tone for open dialogue. Throughout the morning, attendees participated in discussions led by senior specialists from Medical Oncology, Thoracic Surgery and Radiation Oncology. These conversations focused on evolving approaches in lung cancer diagnosis, current treatment protocols and the importance of coordinated, multidisciplinary care. Speakers also highlighted the growing relevance of early detection, symptom awareness and timely intervention, especially in a country where air pollution and smoking continue to contribute to rising cases.
Dr. Ullas Batra’s remarks were echoed through the sessions led by Dr. Mansi Sharma, Dr. L. M. Darlong and Dr. Kundan Chufal, who engaged with participants on treatment advances, surgical innovations and personalised radiation therapies.
A key highlight of the event was the moving set of addresses delivered by lung cancer survivors and caregivers. Their heartfelt accounts of resilience, uncertainty, hope and recovery resonated deeply with the audience, offering reassurance to newly diagnosed patients and families. Their stories underscored how the combination of expert medical care, emotional support and personal determination can make a meaningful difference in long-term outcomes.
The event also featured a cultural performance by students, adding a light and celebratory moment to the gathering. The meet concluded with a community lunch, giving attendees the opportunity to connect informally, share conversations and build lasting bonds. By hosting the Lung Cancer Warriors Meet, RGCIRC reaffirmed its commitment to compassionate care, patient empowerment and continuous knowledge sharing in the fight against lung cancer.
