
The Sixth Edition of the Khelo India Winter Games will kick off from today in Leh City of the Ladakh Union Territory. 21 States and Union Territories will compete in Ice Sporting Events -Hockey and skating – with 1000 participants, which includes 472 athletes. It is being organised by the Youth Service and Sports of Ladakh under the guidance of the Sports Authority of India.
The opening ceremony will take place later this morning at the NDS Ice Hockey Rink in Leh city, and the closing ceremony is scheduled to be held on the 26th of this month. Ice Hockey will be held at NDS Ice Hockey Stadium and Ice Hockey Rink of Ladakh Scout Regimental Centre in Phyang while Guphuk Frozen Pond has been selected for Ice Skating events, will have Figure Skating, an Olympic Sport, introduced from this edition of Khelo India Winter Games in addition to the existing speed skating and short track Skating.
The National Level Khelo India Winter Games under the Khelo India Scheme since 2020 and Ladakh has been hosting it ever since it constituted the game. Ahead of the event, Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta yesterday visited all three venues and reviewed all the arrangements. He directed to ensure seamless and flawless Khelo India Winter Games and zero inconvenience to the participants.
