Moisturizing is a basic yet important part of maintaining healthy skin. Our skin is exposed to various environmental factors, pollution and chemicals. This can cause lack of moisture, hence moisturizing your skin and providing it with necessary components to replenish is crucial.

Lack of moisture and nourishment can initially cause dry, flaky skin and if this is not taken care of it can further lead to irritation, redness and inflammation of skin. Winters especially are a little hard for your skin and moisturizing regularly helps to rebuild your skin’s lost hydration.

Winter is all about warm, cozy clothes and a cup of hot chocolate to relish the breezy weather. But, winter specially brings a hard time to your skin causing dry and damaged skin which causes irritation and sometimes even inflammation.

Ideal time to use a moisturizer

Try to moisturize your skin at least, two times a day. The more you moisturize the healthier skin you get. It’s ideal to use a moisturizer after shower, onto your damp skin because hot water strips away all the moisture and essential oils from your skin turning it dry.

A moisturizer helps balance the required moisture level into your skin and keeps it hydrated as it can absorb all the goodness and retain more moisture providing necessary hydration to your skin.

Use a moisturizer every time you cleanse your face or wash your hands to prevent dryness and lock in moisture. It’s crucial to moisturize after you exfoliate or shave to avoid skin irritation and bumps.

Applying moisturizer boosts hydration in your skin, prevents flaking and dullness, and creates a protective layer of moisture that lasts all day and keeps your skin healthy and hydrated.

Components to look for in Body Moisturizers

Like everything else there are never ending choices available for moisturizers as well, the market is flooded with different types of moisturizers.

Check the ingredients label before making purchases, to choose the one with more beneficial components, which can help nourish and replenish your skin in the long run.

You will come across one moisturizer better than the other, so look out for something that is best suitable for your skin type which has the right components to tackle your skin issues.

Look out for a moisturizer that is oil free, as oily ones can make your skin greasy and sticky. Choose a lotion that is rich in vitamins and contains SPF to protect your skin from harmful sun rays that can cause various skin diseases.

Select moisturizers with Vitamin A and Vitamin B5, they build up moisture levels in your skin, as well as enhance the firmness. Antioxidants like Vitamin E and Vitamin C protect your skin from sun and environmental factors, and help reduce the damage caused.

The major reason behind using a moisturizer is to lock in moisture and provide nourishment to the skin, but moisturizers benefit our skin in multiple ways.

Maintain young and healthier skin

Skin is prone to environmental changes that can cause damage, wrinkles and other problems. Moisture is essential to repair all the damage, help cell regeneration and nourish the growth of younger skin cells.

Moisturizers are applied to your skin and massaged in gentle strokes, this increases blood flow which in turn adds a glow makes your skin look young. Moisturizing serves to lend sensitive skin the push it needs to repair itself and remain healthy.

Pat moisturizer on to your skin gently or massage it in subtle circular motions.

Moisturize as often as possible, don’t wait for your skin to dry or crack up to begin moisturizing.

Do not rigorously rub moisturizer on your skin.

Apply moisturizer in gentle upward strokes and massage it, this way your skin can absorb the essential components well.
