Wayanad; Kerala Fibre Optic Network (KFON) has brought much-needed relief to the residents of Periya-34 in Wayanad, a region that had remained digitally isolated for years due to the absence of even basic mobile network connectivity. Following a request submitted by the residents to the Chief Minister, KFON officials acted immediately, completing the necessary work and providing high-speed internet connections to the region.
The lack of internet access had severely affected education, employment opportunities, essential communication, and day-to-day services in the region. With the urgent rollout of KFON connections, residents now have a solution to this long-standing challenge.
Connectivity issues had also disrupted children’s learning and daily routines. The necessary infrastructure to address these challenges has now been put in place. KFON is committed to ensure that that no individual is excluded from society due to lack of internet access, said Dr. Santhosh Babu IAS (Retd.), Managing Director, KFON.
This region, home to 40 families, has already seen the completion of connections for nearly 25 households. The expansion of connectivity to the remaining homes will follow imminently. Laying fibre across geographically challenging stretches like Periya is paving the way for consistent internet access and a wider range of digital services for residents in the region and neighbouring villages.
