The New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) witnessed a grand celebration on November 9, 2024, as the Sikh community gathered to honor Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 555th birth anniversary. The event, “Oneness: A Light for Humanity,” was a profound tribute to the Sikh Guru’s teachings of love, equality, and selfless service, organized by Let’s Share A Meal. Among the highlights of the evening was the recognition of Harjinder Singh Kukreja and Harkirat Kaur Kukreja, global cultural icons, for their outstanding contributions to the Sikh diaspora and their embodiment of Sikh values in their global outreach.
A Night to Celebrate Sikh Teachings and Philanthropy
The evening was a vibrant blend of spirituality and creativity, spearheaded by Onkar Singh, the visionary behind Let’s Share A Meal, alongside his dedicated team. Their efforts transformed the NJPAC into a space of divine reflection, unity, and artistry.
The night opened with Shivpreet Singh’s soul-stirring rendition of Siddh Gosht, a sacred dialogue by Guru Nanak Dev Ji, followed by Bhai Satvinder Singh and Bhai Harvinder Singh’s kirtan, which uplifted the spirits of the audience. Harshdeep Kaur’s moving recital of the Mool Mantar and her celebrated song “Nanak Aaya” deepened the spiritual connection, while Vilas Nayak’s live painting and Gurbani calligraphy by Hargun Kaur and Simran Kaur added an artistic flair to the event. The evening concluded with a passionate Sufi performance by Kanwar Grewal, whose soulful melodies left a lasting impression on the attendees.
Philanthropy at the Forefront
In alignment with Guru Nanak’s teachings of selfless service, the event raised an impressive $750,000 for Let’s Share A Meal. The nonprofit has been a beacon of hope for underprivileged communities since 2012, organizing langar and other charitable initiatives that have impacted over 100,000 lives globally.
Honoring the Kukrejas
A significant moment of the evening was the honoring of Harjinder Singh Kukreja and Harkirat Kaur Kukreja by Onkar Singh for their exceptional contributions to promoting Sikh values and heritage worldwide. The Kukrejas have been influential figures in the Sikh community, with Harjinder Singh Kukreja recognized as a global entrepreneur and cultural ambassador, and Harkirat Kaur Kukreja celebrated as a parenting and lifestyle influencer advocating for Sikh traditions.
Their recognition was a testament to their efforts in fostering global awareness about Sikhism and their commitment to raising the next generation with strong cultural and spiritual values. Accepting the honor, Harjinder Singh Kukreja said, “This acknowledgment reflects the strength of the Sikh diaspora and its dedication to spreading Guru Nanak’s teachings.
