Representative to the Royal Houses of India, Dr. J.A. Das, along with Chancellor Julius Jackson and Vice Chancellor Brandon Brown were awarded the Nishan-i-Iqbal(Order of Iqbal) in the First Grade. H.R.H. Nawab Hamid Ali Khan Bahadur established the Nishan-i-Hamidiya in 1894 and the Nishan-i-Iqbal in 1927. While the former chivalric order is typically awarded to nobility, the latter is ordinarily awarded to those who perform services to the Royal House of Rampur, or society at large.
In the 1700s, H.R.H. Nawab Ali Muhammad Khan founded Rampur State, an emblem of the Rohilla Pashtun heritage in India. It holds one of the most famous libraries of the world, the Rampur Raza Library. Its Council of Ministers was served by both Muslim and Hindu members in the 1900s, reflecting the royal family’s commitment to the Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb of India. Rampur State held the status of being a 15 gun-salute princely state in India and after independence, the Royal House of Rampur has dedicated itself to educational, cultural, and philanthropic endeavors. Its current Head, H.R.H. Nawab Syed Muhammad Kazim Ali Khan, has served in the Sixteenth Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh, among holding other governmental positions.
