SDM Mangala jyothi Integrated School is the dream initiative of Late Smt. Mohini Appaji A. Nyack, established in 1981 at Vamanjoor, Mangalore. It was founded with the noble vision of bringing children with special abilities into the mainstream of society through the concept of Integrated Education, making it the first such school in the entire Asian continent.
With the intention that no child should be deprived of education and that children with special needs deserve a dignified life like any other child, the institution has been delivering remarkable service since its inception.
In the year 2000, the responsibility of further developing and expanding this institution was handed over to the SDM Educational Society (R), Ujire, under the Presidentship of Poojya Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade. With his deep affection, care, far-sighted vision, and continuous guidance, the institution has been progressing steadily.
Today, true to the philosophy of integrated education, the school imparts Kannada-medium education aligned with the state curriculum by integrating children with Hearing impairments, Physical disabilities, Low vision, Mild intellectual disabilities, Learning disabilities , Autism. These children study together with regular students.
Students have achieved success at state and national levels, and the school, along with the Education Department, has organized district and state-level events, workshops, and various programs. At present, 355 students are receiving education here, consistently achieving excellent SSLC examination results.
To overcome students’ disabilities and support their holistic growth, high-quality education is provided through Speech & hearing training, Physiotherapy, Autism intervention, Art education, Vocational skill training
Under the administration of SDM Educational Institutions, the school completes 25 successful years, and on this special occasion, the Silver Jubilee Celebration will be held on November 28 and 29 under the guidance of Poojya Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade.
