redBus, the world’s largest bus ticketing platform, reveals the growth of women travelers on its platform, especially through its women’s funnel feature, showcasing the increasing confidence of Indian women to travel intercity – solo or in groups. Currently women make up around 33% of redBus passengers
redBus’ Women’s Funnel is designed to enhance safety and convenience for female travellers. Through this feature, they can switch to a women-specific app view, showcasing top-rated buses recommended by other female travellers for a safer, more transparent booking experience. By offering this feature, redBus is addressing a critical need in the travel sector—helping women feel more in control of their journeys.
Women’s Funnel has consistently accounted for around 20% of all redBus bookings over the past six months, reflecting increased confidence of women passengers. Currently, 50% of solo female travellers opt for this feature, indicating a preference for added security.

Based on user feedback, key factors driving adoption include greater visibility into the number of female co-passengers, access to feedback from other female travelers, and ease of decision-making. As the Women’s Funnel continues to gain traction, its impact on women’s travel experiences has become increasingly apparent. The ability to see the number of female co-passengers on a bus has provided many women with a greater sense of confidence when booking their trips. Additionally, the availability of reviews and feedback from other female travelers allows women to make more informed choices, reducing uncertainty and improving overall travel satisfaction.
The growth of this initiative also highlights a broader shift in how digital platforms can enhance user safety. The adoption trends indicate that women are actively seeking solutions that prioritize their security while traveling. In response, redBus continues to explore further enhancements to the Women’s Funnel, including potential collaborations with transport providers to introduce additional safety measures.
