As part of its commitment towards Environmental Sustainability, India Yamaha Motor (IYM) Pvt. Ltd. today announced the complete restoration of Vadagal Lake in Sriperumbudur and handing it over to the local administration. The special ceremony witnessed the presence of Mr. Atsushi Nagashima, Corporate Director, Yamaha Motor India along with Tehsildar and team members.
Spanning over 13 acres, the Vadagal Lake, an important natural resource for nearby villages in Sriperumbudur was abandoned for years. Yamaha realized the significance of preserving the water body for community wellbeing and initiated the Lake Restoration Project. The restoration work involved extensive activities such as debris and waste removal, jungle and shrub clearance, de-silting, bund formation and strengthening, island formation, sluice construction and repairs, and erosion control measures.
The rejuvenated Vadagal lake now has the capacity to store up to 8.5 TMC of water, helping recharge groundwater, strengthen agricultural activity, and provide long-term water security to the surrounding villages.
This initiative represents far more than the revival of a water body. Beyond the rejuvenation of the lake, the project also enhanced the surrounding environment by developing well-planned walking tracks along the bunds and carrying out extensive tree plantation with proper protective guards to ensure the saplings grow safely without damage from cattle grazing. These efforts are gradually transforming the area into a lush green zone, supporting biodiversity and improving air quality. The initiative will create a healthier ecosystem within the SIPCOT region and provide long-term environmental and social benefits to the neighbouring villages.
.
Guided by its Corporate Philosophy, IYM’s sustainability framework rests on four pillars – Health, Education, Environment, and Road Safety. Through these initiatives, Yamaha continues to champion community welfare and preventive care, creating lasting social impact.
