Bengaluru, Karnataka: Satish Raj Goravigere, a journalist and media founder based in Bengaluru, Karnataka, has taken up the editorial responsibility at a regional newspaper Sakshi Prabha with a strong reader base in North Karnataka. Satish Raj now leads its editorial direction from Bengaluru, helping to enhance regional coverage and retain strong ties with rural audiences.
As part of the publication’s current restructuring process, new reporters and editorial coordinators are being appointed across various districts in Karnataka. The goal is to boost field-level reporting and increase regional presence beyond the usual urban areas.
Alongside his print media role, Satish Raj Goravigere is also the founder of Kannada News Today, a digital news platform launched in March 2019 that highlights civic, rural, and cultural stories from across Karnataka. Recently, the platform was recognised with the Best Regional News Source award by a Karnataka cultural organisation. The award was presented during a public event that honoured platforms committed to on-ground journalism.
To further support local journalism, Kannada News Today also introduced the Sadhana Hyperlocal Award, which recognises the work of rural journalists and field reporters operating at the grassroots level across the state.
Moving into English-language media, Satish Raj launched Timesnib in 2025, an online portal aimed at bringing regional developments to a broader national audience. He is also in the process of acquiring a licence for a regional satellite television channel, expected to focus on civic and cultural content.
Over his career, Satish Raj Goravigere has received several Recognition, including the Rajyotsava Journalism Honour (2023) and the Outstanding Media Contribution of the Year Award (2024). His media efforts continue to promote regional journalism and ensure that public-interest reporting is accessible to diverse audiences across Karnataka.
Speaking about his association with Sakshi Prabha, Satish Raj Goravigere said the editorial responsibilities complement his broader media vision. “Timesnib and Kannada News Today will remain my primary focus for digital innovation and editorial work,” he shared. “Sakshi Prabha already has a strong reporting team and loyal readership in North Karnataka. Since the paper is also planning to expand into Bengaluru, it was logical for me to take charge from here,” he added.
As part of ongoing public engagement, a media awareness program was recently held in multiple colleges across Tumakuru district, focusing on the rising concern of fake news, misleading content, and the influence of social media. The sessions were designed to help students understand the importance of fact-checking and the role of reliable journalism in today’s digital world.
