Guwahati : Responding to all the violence going on in Shillong which erupted on Thursday, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs of India Kiren Rijiju said on Sunday that there has been no damage to any Gurudwara or other 
institutions belonging to the Sikh community in Meghalaya where clashes took place between a group of bus drivers and locals. After the violence in Shillong on Thursday, was imposed in 14 localities early on Friday and night curfew in the entire capital of Meghalaya. Taking to twitter he said, “Beware of rumour-mongers and troublemakers. There was no damage to any Gurdwara or other institutions belonging to the Sikh minority in Meghalaya”. The Union minister said that law and order in Shillong is under control and the state government is “extremely vigilant and settling the case”. The Army had staged flag marches in various localities late on Friday night after the violence.The violence took place in the hill town between residents of Punjabi Line and employees of state-run buses belonging to the Khasi community. Several police personnel were injured. It was after a bus conductor was allegedly assaulted by a group of residents of the area that violence had sparked on Thursday afternoon. Later, the matter escalated when rumours spread on social media that the conductor had succumbed to injuries, prompting a group of bus drivers to join the already going on violence in the Punjabi Line area. The police had to fire teargas shells to disperse them. The conductor and three injured persons were taken to a hospital where they were administered first-aid. On Friday and Saturday as well, violence occurred in Shillong which led to arrest of four local people.
