    Published on April 18, 2013

New Delhi :  DASTKAR, in partnership with Delhi Tourism, presents their ‘Cotton Weaves’ Textiles Exhibition which will run from 19th- 28th April 2013 Rajasthan- Leheriyaat Nature Bazaar, Kisan Haat, Andheria Modh near Chhattarpur Metro Station, Delhi. Daily timings 11 :00 AM  to 7:00 PM.

Handwoven fabrics fresh off the loom will be showcased  by the craftspeople themselves with  special weaves .

Protected under multicoloured fluttering canopies, visitors will get a great insight into the techniques and hand-skills that are passed down through generations to create the colourful, soft, light and summery handloom cottons. The fabrics will be available at Dastkar Summer Weaves 2013 in a range of sarees, dupattas, suit sets and yardage.

Visitors will be treated to a wide variety of summer cottons perfect for the sunny season. Woven and printed cotton fabrics will be available in sarees, dupattas, suit sets, yardage and ready-made garments.

Special Textile-Technique demonstrations will be featured to showcase the processes that make handloom and hand-worked textiles such precious and distinctly unique fabrics.

Spinning demonstrations and weaving on a handloom will illustrate how a length of cloth evolves from fibres spun into yarns that then combine, one thread at a time, to form border and pallu, warp and weft, of Saree, stole or yardage material.

Bandhini is an ancient tie-dye technique. Visitors will see how fabrics are intricately knotted into fine dotted designs, resist-dyed and they will see that even the untying process has its own demands.

Finally, steady hands will expertly demonstrate how carved designs on wooden blocks, dipped in natural dyes, stamp their repeating patterns to create a kaleidoscope of wonderful Rajasthani block-prints.

Dastkar Summer Weaves 2013 will showcase light and airy Kota, Chanderi & Maheshwari, the cool colours of Ajrakh, Bagh & Bagru block-prints, and colourful Tribal weaves. Enchanting Lambani, Kantha and Ari embroideries, a variety of tie-dye styles, Bandini, Batik to Shibori, along with hand-painted & block-print Kalamkari and Ikkat weaves from both Andhra Pradesh and Orissa.

The state of Madhya Pradesh will be represented by Bagh printed textiles and Andhra Pradesh’s wonderful Kalamkari printed and hand-painted fabrics (Kalamkari) will delight the eye. Orissa will join Andhra Pradesh to bring Ikat weaves so distinctive and special to these States. Tribal weaves will also be available.

White, beige and golds will float around you creating a sense of cool. Pastels will look breezy and bright colours will always make you smile. Come and enjoy handlooms and hand-printed cottons representing the varied regional traditions of States across length and breadth of the country. There’s certainly something for everyone and something special just for you. Welcome to ‘Cotton Weaves’ at Nature Bazaar, Kisan Haat.

This time at Daskkar Cotton Weaves the featured cultural performances will be the authentic Dandi Raas from Okhamandal region of Gujarat. The performances will be held on the 2nd Weekend – 26th, 27th & 28th April 2013.
