    Celebrity chef Gary Mehigan today presented an authentic Victorian food and wine experience to India during a special Master Class at the Grand Hyatt, Mumbai.

    The event was part of a trade mission to the UAE and India, led by Tourism and Major Events Minister Louise Asher.

    More than thirty of the state’s leading food and beverage retailers and business representatives are in Mumbai as the latest leg of the trade mission to showcase Victoria to the region.

    Gary Mehigan said he is excited to be a part of the Trade Mission and to demonstrate the styles of food on offer in Melbourne and Victoria.

    “I do not think there is anything greater than our cultures coming together over food and wine, two of my favourite things,” he said.

    Minister Asher said the Master Class in Mumbai demonstrates the diversity of the trade mission that has further boosted the prospects of increasing Victorian trade with India which has a population of over 1.2 billion people.

    More than 50 world class Victorian organisations have joined Ms. Asher across the two missions taking the Pic 3 - MasterChef Gary Mehigan and Minister Louise Asher with the Tourism Victoria teamopportunity to expand their global reach and build strategic relationships in key markets.

    These included a major food and beverage promotion at the Annapoorna World of Food Showcase attended by over 6000 trade buyers, a Women in International Business Forum in the UAE which bought together women involved in international trade and investment and a meeting of alumni from Victoria’s world class universities who are now living and working in the Middle East.

    She said since 2010, the Victorian Government has supported more than 2,300 local businesses and organisations on 63 trade missions, including six Super Trade Missions, which have generated estimated additional exports for this state worth over $3.6 billion.
