Police on Monday sought assistance of Bollywood and television personalities to ensure safety and security in the bollywoodmetropolis and fight crime against women.

They also appealed to entertainment industry to portray cops and women in a good light.

“We have approached various sections of society on safety and security of the city, to bring down the crimes against women, to send message of unity and brotherhood in the citizens. We felt there is a need to approach and appeal the very creative section of the society that is Bollywood,” Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh said.

He was speaking to reporters after addressing a joint meeting held between police and Bollywood and television industry personalities at RTO office in suburban Andheri.

The meeting was also attended by Joint Police Commissioner (Crime) Himanshu Roy, Joint Police Commissioner (Law and Order) Sadanand Date, Bollywood personalities Ajay Devgan, Akshay Kumar, Javed Akhtar, Salim Khan, Kabir Khan, Rakesh Omprakash Mehra, Madhur Bhandarkar, Etka Kapoor and Prakash Jha among 60 others.

Singh told reporters the meeting discussed safety and security of the city and the efforts that could be taken jointly by the police and the entertainment industry.

“The meeting ended on a very positive note. Various views were expressed on different topics by police and entertainment industry. We hope to hold such meetings in the future as well,” the police commissioner said.

According to sources, during the two-hour meeting, an audio visual presentation was shown first and various topics, including portraying policemen and women in a good light, joint efforts to be taken for safety and security of the city, were discussed.

However, no discussion on the threats from underworld to some Bollywood personalities of late was held during the meeting, Singh clarified.

Filmmaker Karan Johar and singer Sonu Nigam are among some celebrities who have received threats from underworld in the recent past.

“I welcome the initiative by city police and it was very positive and constructive. Some people want harmony in the country and some people are against it. We are with police and there was no different point of views and we both are on the same side,” said lyricist Javed Akhtar.
