Steria, a leading provider of IT-enabled business services, has won a two year contract with the Norwegian Tax Administration, worth an estimated value of NOK 250 million (€30.7 million), to provide IT operations and management services. This will include consulting services, Java systems development and Infrastructure Management.

The Norwegian Tax Administration, responsible for collecting all personal and business taxes, is working on the large-scale modernisation of its complete IT portfolio, a programme which is scheduled to run through to 2025. In the period up to 2018, the focus is on the modernisation of the systems relating to the coordination of taxation information, the calculation of taxes according to taxation rules and the improvement of the national population register (“Folkeregisteret”).

The Norwegian Tax Authority recognised that a customised application would be required for the complex tasks of third-party data collection and determining of the taxation area. However, it also understood the benefits of a standardised development and operating environment. It therefore made a strategic decision to base its solutions on a modern Java platform with applications delivered via a private cloud infrastructure.

With this two-year contract and an option to extend it by a further two years, Steria will enable the Norwegian Tax Administration to improve its IT delivery, reduce unnecessary costs and drive IT innovation and efficiency.
