  • “International working conference on livelihood skills from Dec. 16 – 18”

    Hyderabad : Rural Economic and Educational Development Society (REEDS), a voluntary not-for-profit organization in association with Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, is organizing the SKILLS 2010: International Working Conference on ‘Life Skills and Livelihood Skills – Challenges for Institutional Development’ from December 16 to December 18 2010 at National Academy of Construction, Hyderabad.

    REEDS believes that there is a great deal to gain for everybody as rural, urban and international community interact and jointly address the challenges. It is in this context the concept of an International Conference, the first of its kind, focusing on life and livelihood skills, has emerged. The conference intends to address various dimensions of skill development and deployment and provide a platform for sharing experiences focusing on life and livelihood skills.

    A number of scholars, professionals and thinkers will be addressing and participating in the conference. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India and a distinguished scholar has consented to deliver the inaugural address. Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Mallikarjun Kharge Minister for Labour and Employment, Government of India and Mr. D Nagender, Minister for Labour and Employment, Government of Andhra Pradesh will also participate.

    Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India and Government of Andhra Pradesh and organizations such as World Bank, German Technology Cooperation, International Labour Organization, Delegation of European Union to India, Australian Council for Private Education and Training, and National Skill Development Corporation have agreed to take part in the conference.

    On the occasion, G Venkatswamy, former Union Minister, Government of India will also be felicitated for his inspiring leadership in the area of education to the underprivileged.

    The three-day event will address several dimensions of skill development and the institutional challenges therein, focusing on training providers and providing institutions. They will include policy related, technology driven and organizational issues. The aim of this conference is to foster opportunities for cooperation and collaboration across individuals and institutions nationally and internationally. Apart from thematic sessions on skills, workshops will also be conducted by internationally known experts on topics of current interest. They include retail skills, work integrated learning, wellness and health care. Asia Pacific Forum for International Education will highlight opportunities for international collaboration.
