Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has inaugurated the 98th National Science Congress at SRM University near Chennai. Dr Singh later distributed awards to distinguished scientists.

The 5-day event will provide a platform to thousands of scientists to come together and explore matters of science and provide applicable solutions to the current era.

The theme of 98th Congress is ‘Quality Education and Excellence in Scientific Research in Indian Universities’.

Besides the theme session, there will be 14 sessions, including challenges in new power and renewable energy, climate change and food security.

Several Nobel Laureates including Amartya Sen and Dr V.Ramakrishnan are participating in the conclave.
