The rupee strengthened by 63 paise and closed for the day at 73 rupees and 13 paise against the US dollar. The domestic unit appreciated as positive domestic equities and weak American currency buoyed investor sentiments.
 
Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading 0.11 per cent down at 93.78.
