    2013, 7 p.m. at FICCI auditorium.  A combination of dance and theatre “Yashodhara” has been written, designed, directed and set to music by the enormously talented playwright-director Dr. Gowri Ramnarayan, JustUs Repertory, Chennai.

    Dr. Ramnarayan served as a journalist with the national news daily The Hindu for 22 years and was a vocal accompanist to music legend M.S.Subbulakshmi for 16 years. Her passion for the Indian Arts is evident in her latest production “Yashodhara” which she has written, set to music and directed

    besides playing the role of the  ‘Sutradhar’. It has received rave reviews for its performances from both critics and audiences alike. It will be performed in Delhi for the first time.

    Based on the poems of celebrated 20th century Hindi poet Maithalisharan Gupt, “Yashodhara” traces the life of Gautam Buddha’s wife after he abandons her in his search of self realization Her journey from grief and bewilderment to the blossoming of her own self is exquisitely protrayed by Bharat Natyam dancer Mythili Prakash, who performs to live Hindustani music by Nisha Rajagopalan,  interspersed by Dr. Ramnarayan’s narration in English that take one through the performance.
