  • 200 students participate in the 4th edition of NES Startup Fest in Mumbai

    Mumbai : The Entrepreneurial Cell of NES Ratnam College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Bhandup (W) organized the 4th edition of the pioneering mega event NES Start-up Festival on 13th February at NESISM campus. The fest has reached out to several thinking labs from the state, E cells of various colleges, IIM’s, budding automobile institutes and more being the distinguishing feature of 2019.

    “India is fast emerging as the golden valley of start-up companies, which are mostly incubated by young entrepreneurs. India will soon be a vibrant nation in the world with 64 percent of its population in the working age group by 2020. All that we need is to guide the start-ups to scale up, inspire more students to aspire and become job creators, instead of becoming job-seekers. This event is to boost these young minds towards an enterprising spirit and mentor them”, shared Dr. R Varadarajan, Founder President NES SVB Group.

    Several distinguished guests like Dr. Arun Raaza (Swansea University UK), Mr. Debraj Dam- Founder and CEO, Advisers India, Mr. Vikesh Wallia –    Director General (West)- Institute of Directors, Mr. Amrut Deshmukh – The Booklet Guy, Mr. Keval Ruparal – Sr. Executive at Indian Chamber of Commerce and Dr. R. Varadarajan, Founder President, NES SVB Group were present on this day. This year students exhibited projects like Battery operated Cars, Foldable Bikes, Humanoid, Food Bank in Residential Complexes, Rain Water Harvesting in Societies, Walking Stick and Cap for Visually Impaired to give an Independant life, Stone Paintings, Women Bakers and more.

    “Realize your strength and innovation should be commercially viable which will make you a global figure. You should have in-depth knowledge of the business you are planning to start. I am happy to support the incubation centre of NES and nurture your ideas”, shared Mr. Arun Raza, Swansea University UK and a successful entrepreneur holding several national and international patents to his credit.

    Today start-ups are together weaving a new wave of revolution across the world and India is not far behind in the buzz. Entrepreneurial mind set has captured the youth of today, which is a bright sign for our country. The government and corporates are encouraging students to become job-creators, instead of ending up as job seeker.

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of transforming India from a nation of job seekers to job creators is materializing through ‘Startup India’ initiative. The college enthusiastically responded to this initiative with the first edition of NES National Student Startup Fest on February in 2016 under the dynamic and inspiring leadership of FounderPresident Dr. R.Varadarajan. Over 60 student start-ups including novel ventures from other cities like Kolkata, Delhi, Pune, Nagpur etc including women entrepreneurs were on display in the hugely successful entrepreneurial extravaganza.

    Vikesh Walia, Director General, Institute of Director (IOD),  “This fest will help in students and children to come up with their own business ideas and concepts and will help in shattering myths of going and learning in schools and colleges just to get a job in the future, u come to learn and open ur mind to new opportunities.

    One of the highlights of the 4th NES Start up festival were the unique bike and car designs from Auto Institute, a Mumbai based institute which teaches skill development to students. They specialize in Auto, Power and Renewable energy; they encourage the students to start making their own projects, and hone their entrepreneurial skills.

     

    The fest included an Exhibition arena which provided a platform for the young entrepreneurs to showcase their products and services. In addition to workshops, Idea lab and Mentor room enabled student entrepreneurs to put forward their innovative ideas for feedback and guidance from experts in the industry. The Collaborating Agencies include, Indian Merchant Chamber, Mumbai Tamil Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Advisers India and more.
