RS term of PM : Notification issued in Assam for polls

In Assam, notification has been issued today to hold election to two Rajya Sabha seats. Official sources said that 20th of this month is the last date to file nominations. Scrutiny of nominations will be held on next day.

Polls, if necessary will be held on 30th of this month. The current term of Rajya Sabha members representing Assam, Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh and Asom Gana Parishad’s Kumar Deepak Das will expire on 16th June.

Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh will arrive in Guwahati tomorrow to submit his nominations .Assam government Spokesperson Bhupen Bora said that after filing nomination papers, Dr.Singh will attend Congress Legislative party meeting at Dispur.

Congress ally Bodoland People’s Front,BPF along with 2 associates members will also attend the meet. The Congress has 79 MLAs while BPF has 12 members in 126 members’ state assembly. It may be recalled that Dr.Singh has been representing Assam since 1991 in the Upper House.
