Prakash Singh, a head waiter at a famous eatery in Sector 18 market, reported for work as always at 11.00 a.m. But, what happened at 12 noon changed his life forever. Although he is married, with an infant son, the 25-year old Singh had been facing financial troubles because of which his wife, son, youngest sister and parents were living in the village while he worked here in Kerala.

Singh was an exceptional student growing up, but, due to his father’s accident, the 15-year old had to take up the responsibility of his family, Being the eldest, he started working with the local farmers to support his mother, provide for his father’s illness and support his three younger sisters (13, 12, 9). For the last ten-years, the feisty young man has been putting in 12 to 14-hour workdays, never taking a day off. Until three-weeks ago, when he realised that an investment made ‘just for the fun of it’ would change his life forever.

One day, he went out for dinner with his friend, visiting from the village. He logged onto Facebook to show his  son’s photographs. And, a pop-up there suggested them to try the Lottery. His friend flatly refused, while Prakash decided to try his luck. Little did he know that six numbers – 6, 11, 23, 34, 56, and 59, would make him feel like the King of the World.

In his own words, “The only holidays I have taken in the last 10 years is to get married, that was two years ago; and when my son was born 3 months ago. So, on confirming that I was the winner, I called my family and told them I am coming for two weeks on Republic Day. I am going to surprise them and bring them to a new three-bedroom flat in Kerala.”

When Prakash approached the restaurant owner with plans to quit, the 70-year old owner offered to sell the restaurant to him. He is going to pay of the cost in instalments. The ambitious young man, who came to Kerala two years ago and started as a dishwasher, knows he will be able to sustain the success. He is also investing in a 3-bedroom flat in Kerala for his family and will be sending his sister to college of her choice and taking his wife to visit Kerala.

He very shyly shared with us, “I have learned to speak English and I once overheard about IIM 6-week programs. My dream is to pursue one of those. And, now, I have the money to make my dream come true.” He ends the conversation by stating.

While this is one of the biggest wins for the LOTTERY, Prakash Singh is not the only winner who chose six numbers and changed his life. Since it is a weekly lottery, several winners every week can walk away with thousands, lakhs and crores. All they must do is spend Rs. 500 on a ticket. The only difference between them and Singh and the others is that, all his six numbers were called, while the others matched, 3, 4 and 5 numbers.
