To her dismay, she experienced a headache, watery nasal discharge and bouts of fever since 2021, which interfered with her normal routine. Dr. ChandraVeer Singh, Consultant Otorhinolaryngologist and Head & Neck Onco Surgeon, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road said, “On arrival, she was examined and had abnormal watery nasal discharge with on and off Bouts of fever. CT Cisternogram was done on arrival. Cerebrospinal fluid leak (CSF) is when the fluid surrounding your brain and spinal cord leaks in the nose. This is known as (CSF) rhinorrhoea and is seen in people of all age groups. CSF fluid leaking into the nose is a rare condition. It happens due to trauma over the skull. Not treating her at the right time would have led to complications like meningitis, and brain abscess.

Dr. ChandraVeer added, “Earlier, the Neurosurgeon used to cut the skull bone and repair the leak in “Endoscopic C.S.F. repair surgery. However, with the help of the latest treatment, her surgery was done endoscopically and the flap was taken from the nose to repair the CSF fluid leak into the nose from the brain.  The surgery was uneventful and lasted for 2 hours. The patient was discharged on the 4th postoperative day, her watery nasal discharge completely stopped.  Here at Wockhardt Hospitals we have a team of highly competent and experienced doctors who can perform even high-risk surgeries with great finesse.”

“The nasal discharge was embarrassing for me as it would happen continuously. I couldn’t go out to attend any functions and had to cover my face all the time. I have been suffering for the last 4 years, I thank the doctors at Wockhardt Hospitals for giving me the proper and timely treatment,” concluded patient Mrs Khan.
