CHELSEA AND BOSTON, MA : The American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA) has named AECOM as a 2019 bronze award winner for engineering excellence for their work on the Silver Gateway Project in Chelsea, MA.

The Silver Line Gateway Project is the first new MBTA Service in over a decade, giving the City of Chelsea a significant upgrade to public transportation with convenient and much needed access to Logan Airport, the Seaport District and South Station. The Project presented unique challenges including the sensitivity of adjacent utilities and significant grading issues in a constrained right-of- way which was further complicated by the adjacent active rail line. The challenges were addressed with innovative wall designs and stage construction plans. The station design needed to meet MBTA requirements while addressing resiliency, life cycle and long term maintenance. An international company, AECOM has fifteen offices throughout Massachusetts.

The 2019 Engineering Excellence Awards were announced at the recent ACEC/MA Engineering Excellence and Awards Gala with special guest emcees Jonathan L. Gulliver, Highway Administrator at MassDOT and Frederick A. Laskey, Executive Director of MWRA.

“Each year we gather to celebrate and recognize engineering firms for projects that demonstrate innovation and excellence,” said Michael J. Walsh, PE, President of ACEC/MA and Vice President of CDM Smith. “We congratulate our winners who work tirelessly throughout the year to advance the goals and values of our organization and the industry.”
