Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has unanimously been elected Samajwadi Party’s national President replacing his father and party Chief Mulayam Singh.

A resolution to this effect was presented by party general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav in the party’s national convention in Lucknow today which was passed with a voice vote.

In another resolution, Akhilesh’s uncle Shivpal Yadav was removed from the post of state party chief and Amar Singh was expelled from the party with immediate effect.

Addressing the convention, ​Akhilesh said, he has highest regards and respect for his father. He said, he will respect Mulayam Singh more than ever and if people are conspiring against his father it is his duty to act against them. The Chief Minister also said, few persons in the party never wanted that Samajwadi party can form government in the state.

Meanwhile, Mulayam Singh has termed the convention as totally unconstitutional. In a letter issued by the party head-quarters, Mulayam Singh, who abstained from the meeting, said strict action will be taken against those who attend the convention.

The convention was held a day after Akhilesh and Ram Gopal Yadav were reinstated into the crisis-Our correspondent reports that the mood and tempo was already set even before the beginning of the convention to anoint Akhilesh Yadav as supreme head of Samajwadi Party today.

As soon as the​ resolutions were presented all of it were immediately approved and passed by eager representatives. Akhilesh was flanked by Naresh Agrawal, Kiranmoy Nanda, Reoti Raman Singh, Balram Yadav and other senior leaders considered very close to Mulayam Singh Yadav. The entire proceeding of convention was completed in less than half hour.

Now, it is crystal clear that a new list of candidates will be issued in the stewardship of the Akhilesh Yadav. Security has again been beefed up in front of residences of Mulayam Singh Yadav and Shivpal Yadav.
