  • Mumbai :  Amway Opportunity Foundation (AOF), the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of Amway India, observed the Photo3_Sandeep-Prakash-&-AnInternational   White Cane Day for the 15th consecutive year in a very unique way. AOF distributed white canes to the visually challenged people at NAB India head office, Khan Abdul Gaffar Marg, Worli Seaface, Mumbai-18. This was followed by a Chess Competition between the visually challenged students of NAB and Amway employees.

    The event began with the distribution of the white canes, to the visually challenged students by Shri. Anil Kumbhare, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Mumbai Police (Traffic), Sandeep Prakash, Regional Head West – Amway India. Ms. Pallavi Kadam, Executive Director, NAB, Mr. A. S. Athalekar, Honorary General Secretary, NAB, Amway staff and select Amway distributors were present on the occasion.The dignitaries joined students from NAB for a road demonstration with a view to spread the awareness about the White Cane Safety Day. The demonstrations took place throughout the day at different locations of the city, including the traffic signals on Abdul Gaffar Road-Worli Sea Face, Mahalaxmi Station and Regal Cinema.

    The event concluded with the chess competition between visually challenged students of NAB and Amway employees. NAB students with their special talent and skill gave a tough competition to Amway employees in the game.

    On the occasion Sandeep Prakash, Regional Head-West, Amway India, said “The White Cane Day is an occasion to remind people to promote courtesy and special consideration to people who are blind. This day we celebrate the independence of people who are visually challenged and their right to participate fully in the society.”

    Mr. A. S. Athalekar, Honorary General Secretary, NAB, India, added with similar sentiments “We laud the achievements of persons with visual impairments and the white cane as a symbol for blindness and a tool of independence on the occasion of the International White Cane Day.”
