  • Arun Jaitley hopeful to pass GST Bill in Budget session

    New Delhi: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday  said the chances of passing Goods and Services Tax (GST) bill in the coming budget session of the parliament are very bright as Rajya Sabha’s composition is changing. Jaitley said this while addressing the 67th Batch of Indian Revenue Service ( Customs and Excise ) Probationers in New Delhi.

    The Finance Minister said, there is a complete consensus among all the major political parties on GST. But parliament obstructionism is causing the delay in passing of GST. He opined, the retrospective tax laws, instead of adding value to the economy of the country had resulted in negative, as they shunned away many foreign investors. He also said, to make Ease of doing business a reality, Surprise tax legislations must be avoided and standards of fairness should be adopted by tax men.

    Speaking to the young probationers  the Finance Minister advised them to position themselves always on the side of Ethics and Morals while carrying their duties.

    Finance Minister also assured the officers that, there are no such plans to split IRS Customs service even if the GST is rolled out.
