Aryaman Hooda and Udiyansh Yashasvi, students of The Cathedral & John Connon School and Aaryan Dalal of Dhirubhai Ambani International School have come together to raise funds for planting native species of trees and reclaim degraded land in Sanjay Gandhi National Park(SGNP) as part of ‘Greener India’ initiative. These students have been working with SGNP for last two years towards the Forest and wildlife habitat conservation and have undertook tree plantation, wild life monitoring, sensitising ecotourist on dynamics of forest ecosystem and educating SGNP local communities on need to conserve ground water. ‘Greener India’ has managed to raise more than ₹2 lac and have used part of funds to purchase more than 200 tree guards that will every year take care of 200 newly planted trees for next 15 years. The native trees selected for plantation like Peepal, Cotton tree, Banyan, Jarul etc already thrive in SGNP and have higher chance of survival. ‘Greener India’ has dedicated their tree plantation drive to brave soldiers of the nation and to recognise their supreme sacrifice, will be planting trees on Independence Day at SGNP in presence of Mr G. Mallikarjuna(IFS), Director and Chief Conservator of SGNP. ‘ Greener India’ is working with ‘Soldierathon 75’, a pan India running/ cycling event by ‘Fitistan, Ek Fit Bharat’ on Independence day and aims to plant one tree for each race finisher.
