  • Bank of Maharashtra, Convener, State Level Bankers’ Committee Arranges Meeting Specially to Review Progress Under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana in Maharashtra

    Shri Anandrao Patil, Director, Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, Government of India is keenly following the progress of PMJDY in Maharashtra State and PR-Photoproviding valuable guidance from time to time.

    A meeting of representatives from member banks, business correspondent agents and Corporate Business Correspondents was arranged at Bank of Maharashtra’s Head office, Pune on Saturday, 06.09.2014 specially to review progress under PMJDY in the State.

    Shri S. Bharatkumar, General Manager, Resource Planning & Convener, SLBC, Maharashtra welcomed the participants and heartily thanked Shri Anandrao Patil, Director, DFS who agreed to address the gathering despite his hectic schedule. He appreciated the efforts put up by all the member Banks and Lead District Managers for effective implementation of PMJDY Scheme in the State and informed the house that on the day of launching of the scheme itself 7177 camps were conducted in Rural and Urban centres. The target of opening of 12.50 lakh accounts was also surpassed by opening 14.42 lakh accounts by banks in the State. He updated the house with detailed progress of the scheme in the State in respect of opening of accounts, issue of pass books and RuPay cards, E-KYC, SSA coverage, Survey of households and target achievement in respect of appointment of fresh BCAs. He informed the house about the proposed strategy to complete the survey of all households up to 30.09.2014 and TO put up in Gram Sabhas to be held all over Maharashtra on 02.10.2014. He appealed all representatives of banks to strive hard for achieving the targets.

    Shri Anandrao Patil, Director, DFS congratulated all member banks for their achievement, conveyed thanks on behalf of the Government and informed the house that Hon’ble Prime Minister was also very happy about the progress of the scheme in the country. He remarked that the job done by banks in Maharashtra was outstanding. However, he reminded the house that the deadline for coverage of the households for providing banking services was preponed to 26th January 2015 and the task was momentous. He advised the bankers to complete survey of the households in the allotted areas by 30.09.2014 so that with proper planning, all households can be covered well before the deadline. He shared his first hand experience of the tour of Kolhapur, Satara and Sangli Districts and informed that people were well aware of the scheme and were keen to open accounts. He observed that of all the 2.29 crore accounts opened so far, the number of accounts opened with E-KYC was a lakh only and urged to concentrate on implementation of this newly introduced feature. He also urged to give due local publicity in regional languages so that people can identify with the scheme to a greater extent.

    Shri Patil personally interacted with the BCAs and Corporate BCs and congratulated them for doing excellent job. He noted down their problems which ranged from connectivity issues to problems in cash related transactions and queries of people in respect of benefits to be received under the scheme. He provided on the spot solutions for some of the problems. He informed that the website of DFS would be updated shortly which will provide clear guidelines pertaining to most of the issues in form of FAQs.
