  • Battery Life is the Most Important Smartphone Feature and it’s All Because of Gaming

    Published on April 1, 2019

There are dozens upon dozens of smartphone manufacturers and each of them packs their smartphones with all kinds of specs in the hopes of standing out. From cameras that can shoot editorial-quality photos in low light to bezel-less displays that put the selfie camera on a notch.

However, while these defining features are important to distinguish one phone from another, they may not be the deciding factor when we buy phones. The results of an IDC survey of smartphone users confirmed that for both iOS and Android users, the battery life is the biggest factor. The most likely reason for these results is gaming.

Developers Are Coming Up With New Ways to Play

A lot of this has to do with the fact that developers are coming up with new, more battery-intensive ways to play. Some of the most battery intensive mobile games are games like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Mobile, Fortnite, and Pokemon GO. These are all big, innovative games with connected multiplayer features so it’s little surprise that they’re draining your battery.

Connected multiplayer features are becoming more popular with mobile gamers and so the battery life of their phone is going to continue being a top priority. Casino game developers have come up with live casino games – these are casino games like blackjack, roulette, and baccarat as hosted by live dealers. Live casino games are hugely entertaining and having your cards dealt in blackjack by a person and not a computer is a real thrill. However, properly enjoying a game like this requires an Internet connection and a powerful display, which are two things that can have a big effect on your battery.

Apps Are Offering So Much More

The debate about battery life is also because apps are offering so much more. The number of mobile gamers grew by 5% in the United States and Canada in 2018 and this figure will only grow more as developers keep creating high-quality mobile games that make us want to play for longer.

Developers are already doing this by packing more games and game modes into their apps. The Seminole Social Casino app boasts dozens of slot games, table games (like blackjack), and video poker and these are all titles that will make players want to spend tons of hours within the game. It’s great that so many casino games have been able to be packed into one app, but playing so will also hit the battery life of your phone.

    How Are Smartphone Manufacturers Responding?

With the number of mobile gamers growing, smartphone manufacturers have at least tried to respond to the increase in demand for phones with better battery lives. The list of smartphones with the longest battery now features flagships from brands like Huawei and Apple. The Huawei Mate 10 Pro is featured, alongside the iPhone XR, and the Samsung Galaxy Note 9.
A lot has been done to appeal to mobile gamers, but battery lives could still be improved. Developers aren’t going to start dropping features soon and those battery lives will need to be more accommodating of players.
