Pune:  The Alumni Meet of IBS Pune, a leading business school, was held on March 17, 2012 at the Le Meridian Hotel, Pune. The Alumni meet, in its 12th year running, witnessed key participation by a diverse group of alumni from the banking, manufacturing and IT industries, along with leading corporate, government representatives and foreign delegates. In the wake of the 2012 Union budget announcement on March 16, 2012 the discussion focused mainly on the Budget with the panel discussion centred on the theme “Yes! Finance Minister”.

The key speakers at the event were Dr. Ashok Desai, Economist & former Chief Consultant with the Ministry of Finance and Dr. Vijay Kumar Khanna, Associate Professor‐Finance at the National institute of Bank Management. The speakers analysed the key features of the budget and addressed issues like inflation, India’s growth trajectory and tax rules changes. Speaking on increasing the competitiveness of Industries in India in light of the budget, Dr Desai said, “More industries would increase their production and operations in India, increasing Indian competitiveness”. “Increase in excise duties will lead to inflation. On the whole the objectives of the budget seem to be achievable” added Dr. Khanna.

The address by the speakers was followed by a one hour long question-and-answer session which revolved around the budget analysis.
