  • Karnataka Rajyotsava, also known as Karnataka Formation Day, is celebrated on 1 November of every year. This was the day in 1956 when all the Kannada language-speaking regions of South India were merged to form the state of Karnataka.

Planning to celebrate Karnataka Rajyotsava without hurting the environment? Don’t pick up plastic flags sold on the streets, Plastic Runner or Banners as they are made of plastic. Instead, you could buy a seed flag—a flag made of seed paper; a handmade/biodegradable type of paper that includes any number of different plant seeds. The seeds sprout when the paper is planted in soil, thus raising saplings

Roshan Ray, a Bengaluru based Eco -Entrepreneur engineer, has been making these biodegradable flags to over thousands of residents of India in the past few months  and for the first time he making flag for Karnataka Rajyotsava.

Speaking about this “The idea for a flag made of seed paper first germinated when I saw the number of plastic flags sold on the street. It really hit me hard and thus I came up with this idea of biodegradable flags. Plastic flags ultimately end up in dustbins or on the roadside. Thus, not only is the paper biodegradable but it saves water as well. The Ink we use is Biodegradable and Organic Ink which does not harm the environment!

All Packaging for Seed Flags are done by Physically and Mentally Challenged Individuals.

How to Plant:Soak it in water for 2-3 days and then plant it in soil. Keep watering it daily. The paper will biodegrade and it will germinate in 4-6 weeks’ time.
