  • City’s NASSCOM 10000 alumnus startup enables a new writer CA Sai Teja to launch into the film industry

    Published on July 3, 2019

Hyderabad: Kahaniya a self-service content marketplace, a city’s startup helped 27 years old CA Sai Teja become a Script Writer for the just-released Dr Rajshekhar starred Kalki movie, an investigative thriller inspired by true events.

Kahaniya is a start-up founded by an alumnus of SLP (Start-up Leadership Program), NASSCOM 10000 Startups, and Boston University

We are a just three-year-old startup. After the initial rough and tumble, last year we started formally representing some of our writers. The result: A writer and his story, both discovered for the first time on Kahaniya, is released as a Telugu feature film “Kalki” just hit the theatres shares Kahaniya Co-Founder, Pallav Bajjuri in a press note issued in the city today.

Sai Teja’s story for the film Kalki was picked up from Kahaniya. Kalki was one of the most read series on Kahaniya says Pallav Bajjuri.

Disrupting the industry, creating opportunity, Kahaniya is helping the vernacular ecosystem. With Kahaniya young and established writers can set up their own profiles, publish literature, build an audience and monetize their work. There is an author in every one of us. The idea in mind, script on paper, but, you can’t do anything with that. There are many who want to see  to turn their works into a book or even a film. With Kalki, we have set an example of “Authorpreneur”/“ Bookpreneurs”.  Our endeavor is to identify and develop “Authorpreneurs”, says Pallav. As a book it was a great hit, now it is a film something a new experiment for a startup like us he said.

Launched in 2016, we are a strong community of 3000 plus writers and reached over a million readers around the world. However, we defined our success by the number of opportunities we provide to our writers’ community. Kalki is one such a success story says Pallav.

Sharing more details of the success of the three years old Kahaniya Startup, Pallav informed that they announced a flagship platform, “Kahaniya Launchpad”, a “novel writing” contest for those writers who have never been professionally published before.

In March this year, we released “Daitya Diaries”, which was selected from over 300 entries we received from around the world.  Within no time, “Daitya Diaries” a mythological fiction authored by KV Aditya, a debutant author, communication specialist and Fellow of Cornell Alliance has hit “Top 30” charts on Amazon.

To help bridge the divide between production houses and storytellers, we have created a platform called Konnect. We are on the verge of announcing an Original Web Series for Zee5, based on a story discovered through Konnect informs Pallav.

We are currently at the fag end of our second Launchpad campaign, in collaboration with Hind Yugm says Pallav. This campaign will result in an anthology of Love Stories featuring writers that have never been professionally published before.

As of June 2019, Kahaniya is operationally active in Hindi and Telugu. At Kahaniya our aim is to revive stories in regional languages, be it stories, poems and short fiction Kahaniya is the platform.  It is the platform that goes to the authors rather than authors coming to us.  It is a sort of disruption, Pallav said.

One key element we have noticed in vernacular literature industry is that the industry is very unorganized. Many publishers do not even have proper paperwork with their own authors and authors have a tough time finding opportunities.

We are working to open up our operations in other regional languages too, with a primary focus on organizing the vernacular literature industry and creating more opportunities for writers.
