Bangalore: With an aim to impart knowledge and help practitioners in staying updated with the latest trends in spine surgery, Aster CMI Hospital as part of a 2 day symposium on April 09^th, 2021 and April 10^th, 2021 performed 3 minimally invasive spine surgeries during the event at its premises. More than 500 surgeons from across the country and about 18 international and more than 60 national faculty members attended the event. The conference addressed the needs of both beginners and experienced surgeons and provided them with a comprehensive update on the current standards of care in the field as well as the emerging therapies and technologies.

The symposium focused on bringing the surgeons from around the world and within the country on a common platform to deliberate on the newer interventions through various scientific sessions along with interactive case presentations. It also laid emphasis on emerging MIS techniques and through evidence-based approaches it educated the participants about the latest technological advancements in the field.

The highlight of the program was the live surgical demonstrations conducted at Aster CMI Hospital wherein a 61-year-old patient who was suffering from back pain and right lower limb pain since 3-4 months, a 65-year-old male who was suffering from back pain, claudication and had difficulty in walking since 8 months and a 55-year-old male suffering from back pain, difficulty in walking and was having numbness in both legs since 1.5 years were offered minimally invasive (keyhole and Endoscopic) surgeries for pain relief and improved quality of life. With these surgeries, Aster CMI Hospital showcased the latest developments in spine surgery techniques (Keyhole surgery and Endoscopic spine surgery) and highlighted the importance of utilizing the most advanced equipment (Intra-operative 3D imaging system – O-arm and Intra-operative navigation) in spine surgery. Introduced for the first time in Bangalore, the O-Arm at Aster is the most advanced 3-D surgical imaging equipment – provides an impeccable view which helps the surgeon in visualizing the complex and critical parts of the skeletal anatomy. Combined with navigation, it improves accuracy, reduces surgical time and overall radiation.
