    Published on April 3, 2013

Edu MediaMumbai : Films as a medium have a powerful impact on society – indirectly educating and influencing thousands across the world. School Cinema aims to create an impact on children using the captivating medium of short films to impart value education. School Cinema now takes a step further and is proud to declare a film board headquartered in Mumbai.

The film board will serve the following objectives:

    Promoting the Short Film industry

Today, short films are a vehicle for attracting young people into the industry and a means of showcasing their talents. Short films are a ground breaking and accessible platform for exciting, experimental and engaging storytelling. Even though short film is an art form, it is not receiving the recognition it deserves. The board will promote the medium of short films to make them a preferred and profitable medium for filmmakers and the audience.

Encouraging the production of quality children’s content

Media can have a very positive influence on kids if it is used the right way. But kids are usually exposed to content which may or may not be appropriate for them and can directly or indirectly affect their mindset. One needs to be responsible while creating content for kids and be sensitive to what is being communicated and how but there is an acute lack of relevant content for kids today. The board will therefore encourage filmmakers to create good and responsible children’s content.

The School Cinema Film Board has several known personalities from the film fraternity as its members. Dignitaries like Jaaved Jaaferi ; Indian Actor and Comedian, Vikramaditya Motwane, acclaimed Indian Director, Screenwriter, Revathy; Renowned Indian actress and National Award winning film director; Rajeev Masand, acclaimed film critic and Rohini Hattangadi, veteran Marathi actress, are the distinguished members of the film board.

To fulfill the above objectives, SCFB will engage in the following activities:

ü  Promotion of the genre of short films through forums, festivals, institutes, etc

ü  Short film screenings for children

    ü  Short film making competitions

ü  Script and short film making workshops for children and film students

Sharing the vision behind introducing a film board, Tabassum Modi said, “I welcome on board the esteemed members of the School Cinema Film Board. It’s indeed a pleasure to have them as a part of the EduMedia family.  School Cinema makes thought-provoking and relevant content for kids and with the help of the Film Board, we hope to inspire and support other content creators to do the same. Our endeavour is also to expose audiences to good quality short films and create an interest for its commercial potential in Indian film industry.”

As the first activity for the School Cinema Film Board, School Cinema is organizing ‘My 1st Short Film Contest’ – a short film contest for students below the age of 16 years. The topics for the film include:

    Walk to School

    The Cracked Mirror

    Believe it or not!

    Born Equal

    My First Time

The films will be judged by our eminent film board members. The winners of the contest can win prizes worth Rs 1 Lakh. The details of the short film contest can be found on the website: www.schoolcinema.net
