Kutch Art Festival & Kutch Handicraft Exhibition –cum Sale will be organized on 19th, 20th 21st September, 2013 (Thur – Sat) between (10.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m.) at Yogi Sabhagruh, Swami Narayan Temple, Opp. Dadar Station (C.R.), Mumbai.
This event has been organized by Ashapura Foundation in association with Rotary Club of Bombay Central.
This exhibition will be a Creative Outlet for Arts like Bandhani, Batiq, Patola, Weaving, Embroideries, Block Print, Woolen & Kutchhi Shawls, Woolen Namda, Lacquer, Leatherwork, Mudwork, Metal and Wood Carving, Rogan Paintings, Pottery, Mushroo, Tangolia, Beadwork, Kharad, Puppet, Knief – Nut Crackers, Chaniya-Choli and many more items will be available.
Mrs. Dina Chetan Shah, Trustee of Ashapura Foundation informed that the main objective is to bring the Artisans from Kutch to Mumbai and to develop their self confidence and provide opportunity to sell their articles. It represents a vision to restore, preserve and promote the arts of Kutch and Kutch artisans by giving them proper platform to reach out their skills and making them accessible to the people from all over country. The total sale proceeds of the articles will go directly to artisans.
Ashapura Group had set up Hiralaxmi Memorial Craft Park in 2005, which had been spread over 11 acres of land, located at Bhujodi-Kutch. Here the artisans were provided premises on monthly basis without any charge and they could sell and display their skill of their respective crafts to the visitors and the total amount of sale would directly go to the artisans. The tourism department of the Govt. of Gujarat and Kutch District Administration have notified Hiralaxmi Memorial Craft Park , as one of the major tourist places in Kutch, Gujarat. This craft park was set up in loving memory of late Smt. Hiralaxmi Ba –mother of shri Chetan Shah –Managing Director & wife of Shri Navnitlal Shah –Chairman of Ashapura Group.
