  • First batch of yatris leave for Amarnath shrine from J&K

    yatris leave for AmarnathIn Jammu and Kashmir, the first batch of Shri Amarnath Yatra-2013 has left the base camp Jammu, Bhagwati Nagar for holy cave shrine situated in deep Himalayas in South Kashmir district of Anantnag, early this morning.Our correspondent reports that amid light showers J&K Tourism Minister, Ghulam Ahmed Mir flagged off the batch of 3157 yatries comprising 2,466 Males, 563 Females, 37 children and 91 sadhus in a cavalcade of 96 vehicles under tight security measures. Great enthusiasm was witnessed among the the pilgrims and they were chanting slogans of “ Bab Bam Bole”. “Har-Har Mahadev”. The government has made tight security arrangements for the pilgrims and a three- tier security system is in place for pilgrims right from Lakhanpur to the holy cave. Elaborate arrangements have also been made for the smooth conduct of the Yatra and on-the- spot registration counters have been set up at Sarswati Dham and Vaishnavi Dham near Jammu Railway Station, as well as at Jammu Haat. However, the spot-registration will be subject to availability of Yatra quota for that particular day as only 15,000 yatris will be allowed for the pilgrimage every day. According to sources, so-far over three lakh people have registered for the annual Yatra from across the country.
