  • Prominent Indian designer Shaahid Amir will present his ‘Terra Mater’ – (Mother Earth) collection at the Cannes Fashion Nites, during the Cannes Film Festival. The fashion show at the prestigious event will be held at Villa Oxygene, the official Cannes Fashion Nites venue.

Recently he was conferred with the Newsmakers Achievers Award for his contribution to design ideology for Indian Films. Today his label is synonymous with luxurious personal style and the highest quality design, and caters to an exclusive and discerning loyal clientele. He is the only Indian designer who has been invited until date to showcase his collection at the Cannes 2011.

Over the last 2 decades Shaahid’s style has developed to suit his discerning clientele’s exquisite tastes. His fashion talent goes beyond a passion for fabric or color; his designs are a statement of elegance, charm, glamour, simplicity, trendy creativity and the embodiment of the human quest to be unique with a personalized presence. Shaahid has shaped his vision of fashion by taming nature’s diversity and customizing it in a classic original silhouette to fit every individual’s perception of beauty.

“His ‘Terra Mater’ collection will portray the heritage, culture, and tradition of India while imbibing the western attitude,” says the designer. “I strive to capture that essence and sew it to perfection one stitch at a time. I am inspired by meeting and dressing individuals from across the globe.”

Shaahid’s latest designs for the Cannes Showcase mingle colors with the changing pleasure of light. This original collection offers a variety of gorgeous outfits to suit all tastes and occasions. Endlessly inspired by Mother Earth, the designer creates a visual symphony of organic fabrics where the transparency of muslin, the beauty of Bhagalpur tapestry, the sumptuousness of crinkled cotton, the glow of satin and the elegance of embroidery take us into a world of spiritual sensuality. Details in the conscientiously created ensembles gleam as threads of light. The flawless stitching bespoke tailoring, unusual trims and unexpected pops of color and texture are reminiscent of his signature style.

All pieces are handcrafted using the finest fabrics and materials sourced from across India, accessorized with authentic Indian folk jewelry and add-ons like kohl, sindoor, et al. With a spirit of innovation and creativity, the label utilizes the best international practices in garment making, producing limited quantities of an eclectic range of garments appealing to a broad range of tastes. Shaahid creates exclusive, luxurious and inimitable designs that complement the lifestyles of his broad spectrum of clientele. Great care is taken to ensure that all garments are made to perfection with a focus on quality, style and client satisfaction. Limited edition pieces are created to suit a diverse fashion-conscious clientele who enjoy re-inventing and re-interpreting trends that speak to them while having fun with their personal style.

As quoted by Shaahid “My omnibus of designs for the ‘Terra Mater’ or ‘Mother Earth’ line collection primarily springs from the rudiments of nature and from royal Mughal attire of antiquity. The Jama & its close cousin the Angarakha, were developed following impulses received from Persian courts and imbibed into the Mughal courts. Taking a cue from those lines & cuts, I have given it my own tweak. The ideology behind the anthology is to stray away from synthetics & concentrate on organic & natural fibers. Utmost care has been taken to make sure that the entire collection is Eco-friendly. I have shied away from using chemical dyes where required & opted instead for vegetable dyes. Clichéd, as it may sound, but the working title for this collection was ‘Save the Earth’. A great lot of research & detail has gone into the kind of design elements I wanted to use & blend in the ensemble. whats ven morethrilling is that weput this collection together within a span of 10 days’ “
