Mumbai: Freudenberg, a leading family-held global business group, announced that it plans to tap the growing market for airport acoustics in India. Following successful implementations of cutting edge acoustic design and solutions at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai and Amritsar Airport in Punjab, the group announced today that Freudenberg Nonwovens, one of the group’s ten operating companies in India has successfully implemented an ingenious world class acoustic solution at Delhi International Airport’s T3 terminal as well. Built around SoundTex, a high performance acoustic nonwoven that blocks noise of planes and traffic outside from penetrating the terminal building, the solution ensures a relaxed and comfortable environment for the 34 million passengers expected to pass through the terminal each year.

According to the experts, air travel in India could be handling between 150 and 180 million passengers per year by 2020 compared with the current figure of approximately 70 million.Dr. Jörg Matthias Grossmann, Regional Representative of the Freudenberg Group in India and the global CFO of Freudenberg Chemical Specialties explains, “Our global track record in design and delivery of state-of-the-art acoustic solutions in a few tens of airports worldwide and the experience gained in implementing it in 3 Indian airports already places us in a good position in this fast growing market. With our tradition of investing in innovative, technological solutions, we will be able to continue to ensure the success of our Indian customers over the long-term.”

Explaining the innovative solution developed for the Delhi’s T3 terminal, Milind Karhanis, Freudenberg Sales Manager Technical Nonwovens India, said, “SoundTex was applied across 140,000 square meters of ceiling and Its design pays careful attention to every detail in order to ensure the best and most pleasant sound experience for the 34 million passengers using the terminal annually. The acoustic nonwoven cuts noise significantly and improves acoustics by shortening reverberation time. The new sound experience at the terminal is audible and perceptible for every passenger passing by. Another important aspect of the whole solution is that not many people will notice the Freudenberg product because SoundTex blends perfectly with its surroundings.”
