  • Govt raises MSP of wheat; nod for exporting 25 lakh additional tonnes of wheat

    The government today raised the Minimum Support Price,MSP of wheat by 65 rupees per quintal to 1350 rupees.

    The decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting this morning in New Delhi chaired by Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, CCEA today also approved exporting twenty five lakh tonnes of wheat.

    The CCEA approved 12.5 percent disinvestment in Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers Limited. Briefing the media in New Delhi this afternoon, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said this will make the company compliant with SEBI norms.

    Regarding allocation of foodgrains to Uttar Pradesh government for the upcoming Kumbh Mela, Mr. Chidambaram said additional 16,200 tonnes of wheat and 9,600 tonnes of rice at BPL prices. He said this will be additional to the already announced 800 crore rupees special grant to the State by the Centre.

    The Cabinet Committe on Economic Affairs also approved 12.5 percent disinvestment in Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers.
