The 543rd anniversary of the founder of Sikh religion Guru Nanak Dev Ji is being celebrated today with religious fervour and devotion. On this day in 1469 Guru Nanak was born in Nankana Saheb. Sikhs from India and abroad visited Nankana Saheb to pay tribute to the great Guru.

At home, devotees are pronging to Gurudwaras to listen to Sabd Kirtan and discourses on the life and works of Guru Nanak. Free Community Kitchens have been arranged in various Gurudwaras. The President and Vice President have greeted the nation on this occasion.

In his message, President Pranab Mukherjee said, the life and teachings of Guru Nanak Devji are of profound significance to mankind. In his message, Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari said that Guru Nanak Dev Ji,, showed the path of peace, harmony and righteousness.

Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh said that the life and message of Guru Nanak ji give us the strength to face current challenges being faced by our society.
