  • Jammu and Kashmir Govt has formed an inquiry committee to probe police action at NIT campus in Srinagar. The committee has been asked to submit its nit shrinagarreport within 15 days.

    An FIR was also filed against few individuals in the case. The students at NIT Srinagar campus will have an option to appear for exams later.

    The decision comes a day after a 2-member team of HRD Ministry visited the campus to take stock of situation and held talks with the agitating students to defuse the tension.

    The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday ordered a time-bound inquiry into the clashes at National Institute of Technology in Srinagar last week.

    The Additional District Magistrate of Srinagar will conduct the inquiry and submit his report within 15 days. The state government has also assured adequate security and protection to students.

    Meanwhile the students will have an option to appear for exams later. This was decided even as the 3 member team of Human Resource Development Ministry visited the campus to take stock of situation and held talks with the agitating students to defuse the tension.

    Expressing a sense of insecurity, outstation students also said that they wanted to go home now and appear for exams later. An fir has been registered in Srinagar following the incident.

    CRPF is deployed inside the campus while the Police is manning the gates. Students staged a protest march within the campus demanding action against the guilty policeman.

    -Tension started brewing inside the NIT campus last week after India lost to West Indies in semi-final in the T-20 cricket tournament prompting some local students to rejoice and burst crackers. This led to protest by outstation students resulting in clashes.

    Since March 31 night, the situation inside the campus has been volatile. The developments prompted the NIT authorities to close the campus on Saturday but it was reopened on Monday.
