    Published on December 28, 2010

Government says improving technical intervention at grass root level is necessary to improve the livelihood of rural farmers. Addressing a workshop on appropriate technology on rural development, Rural Development Minister C P Joshi called for a greater role of organisation like Council for Advancement of People’s Action and Rural Technology (CAPART) in spreading awareness about rural technology. CAPART is an autonomous body registered under the Societies Registration Act.

Emphasising on the importance of indigenous technology, Mr. Joshi asked CAPART to restructure itself in order to create synergy between rural technology and its benefit to masses. He asked for smoothing the process of getting patents to promote innovation and also help farmers make full use of their traditional knowledge and innovative techniques they have acquired over the years.

The Minister also called upon various agencies working to empower rural economy to work in proper coordination to achieve the targets. He said there is need to make panchayats work on the model of self governance and empower the people at grass root level by promoting nature based livelihood to make them self dependent.
