Superstar Vidya Balan, who is enjoying her all new avatar as an RJ on 92.7 BIG FM’s show MUTHOOT BLUE ‘Dhun Badal Ke Toh Dekho with Vidya Balan’, continues to speak and address prevalent issues in the society. Body-Shaming is one such issue that needs immediate attention and in one such hard-hitting video monologue, Vidya Balan brings to light the gravity of the situation. She further recreated some popular songs and shared her stance on people who body shame rather than addressing anyone by their name, they differentiate people by their complexion, shape, and size.

Vidya further shares in her video the effects of body shaming which most of us do not realize. The actress adds, “It is really shameful that people in society make jokes on things like the size of a person, the complexion of their skin, height, weight and features without even realizing how much such things can break a person at the receiving end. These jokes can shatter their self-confidence. Every individual is different and this makes each one of us special.”

As someone who has faced a similar kind of challenge when she entered the film industry and hence can empathize with it, the talented actress Vidya Balan spoke about body-shaming alongside actresses Sonakshi Sinha and Amrita Rao. The trio discussed the critical issue in length from how it can have a bad impact on the emotional and mental well-being of a person, how important is it to raise kids with a healthy body image, how it can be dealt well and the need to carry on with a positive attitude amongst others.

When asked from actress Sonakshi Sinha who has been body-shamed often on social media, she said, “I have seen both sides. I was an over-weight teenager during my growing years. It hardly bothered me that I needed to get slim, as people expected the same around me. I didn’t do anything until and unless I got a calling from inside. I am well-educated and was good at other things such as sports, singing, and dancing, so how I looked didn’t really matter. There are so many girls out there who follow us, so I have tried my best to project a very healthy body image.”

Speaking on the growing issue, Amrita Rao, who share a good rapport with Vidya, added and said, “It happens in India so very often which is extremely sad. People don’t realize that name calling a person is a very wrong way to address someone. Nobody decides how their physicality would be eventually. It is natural and no one has control over it. When it comes to me, I have never really thought of being fat or thin. It’s always about being fit. It has nothing to do with weight. Also, I tried my best to be mentally fit.”
