New Delhi : The budding theatre artists from different colleges of Delhi University will get a unique platform to display their multifarious talents as they come together to showcase some of their interesting theatrical presentations next week.

Some widely popular and renowned plays mixed with some new ideas, ‘nukkad nataks’ and some boisterous performances, the Mahavidyalya Natya Samaroh being presented by Sahitya Kala Parishad, Delhi Government promises all.

To be held from January 27-30, the four day theatre extravaganza is a festival of selected plays from Delhi University. Eight plays and eight ‘nukkad nataks’ or ‘street plays’ will be performed over the course of four days at the Sri Ram Centre Auditorium, Mandi House.

The plays have been selected from a large bunch of presentations from Delhi University and represent some of the finest upcoming talents of the city. Now, they will compete with each other for attention.

“When we talk about promoting theater and its artists, it is very important to start promoting fresh talent in schools and colleges. A number of promising theater artists wither away over time because of lack of support and platform to display their talent. The festival of students is part of our endeavor to promote the art of theater among students. A large number of colleges and their students are participating in this festival, which is very encouraging,” says Mr. J. P. Singh, Assistant Secretary (Drama), Sahitya Kala Parishad.

Among the plays to be performed are American playwright Larry Shue’s widely popular play ‘The Nerd’, a comedy about three friends. It will be performed by students of Shri Ram College of Commerce on January 28. ‘Aisa Kahte Hain’, a light hearted comedy written by playwright Manav Kaul, comprising an ensemble of sundry characters will be adapted for stage by students of S.G.G.S.  College of Commerce on January 30.

Another comic caper ‘Kauva Chala Hans Ki Chaal’, a funny story of a middle class man hoping to rise up the class structure, will be enacted by students of the ARSD College on the penultimate day of the festival on January 29.

Other plays that will feature in the festival include ‘Room for Doubt’ by students of Kirorimal College, ‘Kutte’ by Shivaji College, ‘Nishanchi’ by Ramjas College, and ‘Batch 2002’ by Hindu College.

Besides a number of ‘naukkad nataks’ will also be presented by students of Institute of Home Economics, College of Vocational Studies, Ramanujan College, PGDAV College, Hansraj College, Delhi College of Arts & Commerce, Kamla Nehru College and Deen Dayal Upadhyay College.

Internationally acclaimed play ‘Can’t Pay? Won’t Pay!’ a satire about capitalism and the backlash it precipitates, will also be presented as an ‘invitee’ by students of Khalsa College. Written by Dario Fo, the play has been popular worldwide and will be enacted on the last day of the festival on January 30.
