  • Massive quake hits Afghanistan, 150 killed in Pak; Tremors also felt in India

    At least 150people have been killed in Pakistan and several others injured after powerful earthquake shook major cities including the northern areas of the country. An earthquake measuring 7.5 magnitude struck in northeastern Afghanistan today, the US Geological Survey said, sending tremors that were felt in India. In Peshawar, emergency has been declared in all major hospitals. Over one hundred injured people have so far been brought to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar.

    The quake was 196 km deep and centred 82 km southeast of Feyzabad in a remote area of Afghanistan in the Hindu Kush mountain range.

    In India, tremors were all across Northern India around 2.40 pm today. Reports said that there was a massive earthquake in Srinagar.

    In National Capital, many people rushed out of their offices and homes. Reports of tremors have also come in from Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi NCR. People came out of their houses in many parts of Punjab and Haryana while Power supply was disrupted at several places in Himachal Pradesh. However no loss of life and property has been reported from anywhere so far.
